Apparent Requirements for all students not in public education:
It appears both traditional homeschooling and enrollment in online schools require the following.
At least fourteen days before starting to homeschool, turn in a statement of intent form to the local school district’s superintendent. A copy of immunization records and proof of the child’s identity must also be included. The homeschooling parent must have a high school diploma or general education diploma (GED) or will need to be monitored.
North Dakota Homeschooling Achievement Testing:
Must test in grades four, six, eight, and ten.
1. Test may be monitored by local school district
2. Local school district provides NDSA testing at no cost
3. If another test is chosen, it is at the expense of the home school.
4. Test results must be sent to the local school district
Apparently, under North Dakota law if a homeschooled student fails to test in at least the thirtieth percentile nationally on an achievement test, a multidisciplinary assessment team will determine if the student has any learning disabilities. If it is determined that the student has no learning disabilities, the parent and someone licensed to teach must make a remediation plan to correct the student’s academic deficiencies. The plan must be filed with the superintendent of the school district.
